Extraordinary Living in Ordinary Situations
November 2, 2022
From Pastor Joseph Wamack
I used to wonder why marvelous miraculous things didn’t happen to me. Why didn’t I get to see the Red Sea part like Moses did? Why don't I move mountains like Jesus said I would? Why don't I get to touch people and have them rise and walk like Jesus did? Why can't I do sensational things so others will notice me and say I am sensational?
I like BIG EXTRAORDINARY THINGS! I like the sound of the ocean’s roar. I like the symphony of thunder and lightning. I want to feel the mountains tremble. But what do I experience in the morning? The sound of an alarm clock, the dogs whining to go outside and then another day to go to work. Come on God! Where are my miracles? Donde estan mi milagros? In any language, where are the sensational things I need?
For the most part, most of us dwell and move among the ordinary and maybe even are thankful for the ordinary. Who wants an “out of the ordinary” traffic accident on the highway when you can have a boring ride in the car to work? Who wants a trip to the ER when you have another “day at the office?”
With November upon us, many people now start thinking of “being thankful” when being thankful should really be a 365/24/7 way of living. Or perhaps we can adjust our vision and see the many daily miracles happening each day and be thankful for those. For example, the ringing of the alarm clock means I made it through the night, my body functioned beautifully, and I am still alive! It means my ears are working to hear the alarm, my arms move and can still reach out to shut it off. What a miracle rising up to one’s feet and standing is!
I have a hot shower, a home to live in, a job to attend to, a mind that can remember and store a zillion and one pieces of information. I can listen to music, talk to another human being placed on this earth, I can feel the sunshine, pray to God, laugh, wonder, grow, be kind and be silent.
The most miraculous miracle is Life itself-the life Jesus came to offer us-abundant living with thanksgiving. Why just look for the BIG things when the miracles are all around us? The EXTRA ordinary is found in the ordinary if we look closely enough.
So today-I wish you a day of extraordinary ordinary miracles-
A fresh cup of coffee and a moment of reflection in the morning.
An unexpected phone call or text from an old friend
Nothing but green lights on your way to work.
A hug or kind word from a loved one.
The fastest line at the grocery store.
Your favorite song on the radio.
Clean sheet when you get into bed.
I wish you a day of happiness and perfection-little bite-size pieces of perfection that give you the funny feeling that the Lord is alive and you are in His care, holding you so gently because you are someone special and rare. I wish you a day of Peace, Happiness and Joy. May you have extraordinary living in ordinary situations.
